At Cologne Academy, we commit to you an excellent educational environment that is safe and supports the learning of all students.  We offer a rich, rigorous curriculum that fulfills the State and the Core Knowledge Sequence requirements, as well as, character development education.

Our Education staff commits that they will partner with parents/guardians to ensure academic, physical, behavioral, and social growth in your children.  Teachers will deliver lessons that capture the interest of the learner and allow exploration and growth in your child’s wisdom through captivating instructional methodologies. Teachers will address each student’s needs and help them each attain a minimum of one-year’s academic growth by working with students and parents on benchmarking goals.

Kindergarten:   In Minnesota, all children are required to complete an Early Childhood Screening before they enter Kindergarten.   The best time to do this screening is before your child’s 4th birthday (ideally between 3 1/2 and 4 years of age).

OPEN ENROLLMENT and REGISTRATION for 2021-2022 School Year

Cologne Academy is a PUBLIC charter school and is open to all students, Kindergarten – 8th Grade.  

For the upcoming 2021-2022 school year, open enrollment is open now through January 15, 2021.  This gives all applicants equal opportunity to obtain a seat for their scholar.

Application forms must be filled out online, hand delivered, or sent via US Mail.   All applications received by 4 PM on 1/15/21 are placed in the lottery if there are more applicants than seats available.  Any applications received after the deadline are enrolled if a seat is available or placed on a waiting list in the order received. 

Week of January 18th — Office notifies parents of placement.

ENROLLMENT LOTTERY:

We only accept applications for the current school year or during/after our open enrollment period for the upcoming year.  We do not accept applications for future years beyond the year noted in the open enrollment period.  During our open enrollment period, we accept any and all applications.  It is not a first come, first served process.   If we receive more applications than we have space for, MN law requires us to hold a lottery.  The lottery is open to the public but parents are not required to attend.  After the lottery, all families will receive notice that they secured a spot or what their number is on the wait list.  (Click HERE to read the entire policy.)

SIBLING PREFERENCE:

If you have a child who is currently registered, then any younger siblings being enrolled in the future will have preference over new families.  We look for sibling preference before determining how many spots will be available for open enrollment. This also means if you have multiple children on our waitlist and an opening becomes available for one child, his or her siblings jump ahead on the waitlist.  During the lottery, when we draw names for available openings, if that child has any siblings, we pull those names and put them at the top of the waitlist as well.

KINDERGARTEN ENROLLMENT:

MN law requires students to be five years old on or before September 1st to enter kindergarten and six years old on or before September 1st to enter first grade.

We will continue to accept new students throughout the year as openings become available.  We also offer sibling preference (see below).

If an email address is included on the application, we will send confirmation that the application has been received and the status of enrollment. Please print legibly if mailing or dropping off an application.  Due to the number of families on our waitlist, and due to the constant movement on our waitlist, we do not regularly update families as to their position on the waitlist.  When a spot becomes open, we will contact you to get you the full enrollment packet which includes immunization forms, emergency contact forms, request for records forms, etc. Once a child is fully enrolled and begins attending classes, you do not need to re-enroll each year.

Note, the law requires charter schools to give certain students priority, before accepting others by lot. These include:

1. Siblings of an enrolled pupil and foster children of that pupil’s parents.
2. Cologne Academy staff’s children
3. All others
