Stacy Ferrin, 3rd Grade

Upcoming Field Trip
It is a very busy time of year! The next four weeks are sure to fly with everything that will be transpiring in our classrooms and buzzing throughout the building. One of the things I wanted to bring to your attention is one of our upcoming field trips.

KIDS AGAINST HUNGER (KAH)
This field trip allows the third and fourth graders to partner together on an afternoon project of packaging food for children in Haiti. Originally started by kids who recognized their ability to reach out into the world to solve a problem, the Kids Against Hunger field trip will afford us the opportunity to extend our core virtues beyond the walls of Cologne Academy. The cost for the bus for this trip is $2, but KAH asks us to collect donations to help offset the cost of shipping these meals to Haiti. Although it is not required, they recommend a donation of $5-$10. Field trip forms are due on Friday. CHAPERONES ARE NEEDED AND WELCOMED….so please contact me if you are interested in joining us. We’ll leave the school at 12:00pm and return at 3:00pm.

SPRING FLING

The time for our biggest fundraiser is THIS WEEKEND and we can use your help! Please go online to mysignup.com/caspringfling to volunteer your time. We have a variety of times and opportunities still available. Thank you for your help!

THANK YOU FOR A WONDERFUL WEEK!

Thank you all for a wonderful week of teacher appreciation! The decorated doors, the notes of appreciation, the help with the staff breakfast, the Ferrin family dinner at the end of the week…were all remarkable ways to feel so incredibly appreciated. It is an honor to work with your child and to partner with you to help them achieve their personal and academic goals. The pleasure is truly mine. Thanks again!

MUM

In math this week, we will begin with our final segments of the math MCA testing. In the days that follow, we will be working on probability, and we will end the week looking at facts and facts families for 6-9 facts. MUM homework this week will be focused on basic facts and a review and practice with fractions.

MUR-

This week in MUR we are looking at our final story in our SRA reading curriculum. It is a fictional story that will allow us the opportunity to take our newly learned PSCMA skills up a notch. It will also allow us a chance to review prefixes and word families in spelling, all 15 of our vocabulary lists from the year, the grammar skills of synonyms and antonyms, verb tenses, and subject/verb agreement, and the comprehension skill of comparing and contrasting. Whew! It is sure to be a very busy week!
